Italy’s most famous manufacturer of luxury writing instruments, with recycled materials, recreates one of its most iconic models, giving fresh purpose to a design conceived more than a century ago. With Montegrappa’s Elmo Ambiente collection, the model designed in the 1920s gains the environmental conscience of the 2020s. The translucent resin created for this collection opens a window onto the mechanics of writing, but also a vision of the possibilities of doing things differently, realizing how everything we touch is part of a larger narrative. Elmo Ambiente results from a collaboration with Smile Plastics, the Welsh studio that transforms discarded materials from a wide range of sources into solutions with high integrity and a post-industrial aesthetic.
For the Ocean model, which celebrates marine beauty, the translucent resin is created by recycling plastic water bottles.
